In the US, national healthcare expenditures (NHE) grew at 5.8% and reached $3.2 trillion in 2015, representing 17.8% of GDP. NHE are expected to reach nearly $5.5 trillion by 2025 (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, cms.gov).
Much of this increase is attributable to the aging population in the US, a group in which the demand for respiratory services is strong.
