The UK is joining a host of mainland European countries in rethinking its nuclear strategy as it looks to drive growth and economic security.
At Davos, Leader of the Opposition Friedrich Merz – widely tipped to be the next German Chancellor at the upcoming election on February 23 – said he was open to new nuclear plants in terms of fourth and fifth generation, including fusion.
Italy is considering a return to nuclear power as part of its strategy to achieve carbon neutrality and increase energy independence, and the Polish government has allocated PLN60bn to fund the country’s first nuclear power plant.
