Cryostar USA began operation in the Philadelphia area in 1993 and was initially set up as a service and support center to be positioned closer to Cryostar’s customer base in North America. Following a couple of further relocations, Cryostar finally settled at its permanent location in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
In 1997, another facility was opened on the West Coast in Santa Fe Springs, California. At this time, the company began to manufacture pumps locally, customized for the US market and designed to be interchangeable with some other models produced in the US. In 2001, Cryostar acquired the pump business of Cryogenic Components Inc. (CCI) and in 2002, the CVI pump product line from Chart Industries based in Columbus, Ohio. Both of these were transferred over to the California facility. Since then, the company’s Distribution Business Unit activity has continued to grow, offering these three product lines.
In addition to the Distribution Business Unit, Cryostar also has a Process Machinery Business Unit which has been active in the US. In order to further grow the market share of the process business and to provide systems tailored to the US market, Cryostar started to package some of its turbo expanders at its third location in Houston in 2016.
