If necessity is the mother of invention, the industrial gas industry has certainly re-invented a number of its practices in response to the urgent nature of the pandemic, adopting higher levels of co-operative working and a fresh nimbleness which will stand it in good stead in the future.
At FIBA we were already supplying vaporizers and oxygen trailers to hospitals when the pandemic struck, but our subsidiary FinnCo stepped up by manufacturing vaporizers for stock, ready for shipping as soon as they were required.
FIBA quickly grew accustomed to making snap decisions to meet urgent needs. As this had to be a coordinated nationwide response, FIBA sites nationally were rapidly deployed to freshly prioritized medical requirements, including converting trailers to oxygen service in Adelanto, California and rehabbing liquid oxygen trailers in Midvale, Ohio.
