Michael Rollins, Vice-President, Global Sales & Marketing at Norris Cylinders, has 16 years’ experience in the industrial gas business. At gasworld’s North America Industrial Gas Conference 2017 in Houston, Texas, Rollins discussed ISO versus DOT cylinders with the intention of highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of each.
Providing distributors with the primary criteria before they embark on a particular strategic direction, he said, “If we look at the market on DOT and ISO, the US is really the only country in the world that relies on the 3AA spec to the degree that we do. We’re talking anywhere between 9-95% of the business in the US still use DOT. If we look at other countries in the Americas, at Canada for example, there’s certainly a mix of DOT and ISO – with a definite growing trend towards ISO. Mexico, as well as Central and South America, are in a similar situation; however, they are now investing in 300 bar technologies.”
