Helium shortages are common to the market. 2023 is shaping up to be the ninth year, in fact, that has been impacted by supply and demand constraints since 2006. And it won’t be the last.
This year could well deliver even more headwinds for the industry. “Helium Shortage 4.0 has eased to some degree. However, we’re in a bit of a calm before the storm’,” Phil Kornbluth, President of Kornbluth Helium Consulting, told gasworld recently.
Shortages that could impact the market in the remainder of this year are mostly related to planned maintenance shutdowns. Alongside this, though, there are some big helium projects coming through, as part of a major push that’s underway to meet rising global demand. Let’s take a look at some of that activity.
