Of all the opportunities in air vehicles – a market that spans aerostats, airships, and hybrid flying-wing airships – the biggest market-changing and growth potential lies in the giant hybrid airships that could play a role in moving heavy freight in places without the infrastructure to support conventional planes.
This is the assessment of Kyle Crawford, who is a semi-retired expert on lighter-than-air systems, and who presented on the second day of conference sessions in Houston for the recent Helium Super Summit 2024.
“This is a small market for helium, and that’s not likely to change, but there is potential for these vehicles to start to play a bigger role in society than they do today,” said Crawford.
The presentation offered an overview of three distinct types of air vehicles, and their potential to develop in the markets they serve.
