The carbon dioxide (CO2) market is shifting in new ways, and demand is continuing to grow. But there is a growing concern among producers that policies in the US are now favoring sequestration over utilization, resulting in issues for the industry.
Higher costs and more shortages are the risks that could be faced if some of these policies are not adapted to prioritize utilization, according to Rich Gottwald, President of the Compressed Gas Association (CGA).
To support the future of the CO2 supply chain, the CO2 Solutions Coalition was recently launched in the US. The aim is to educate policymakers on the impact that legislation could have on the market.
Led by the CGA, the coalition hopes to be a short-term initiative to secure the best future for merchant CO2.
