In an increasingly buyer-driven market, today’s consumers expect more individualised products at nonetheless competitive prices. The answer lies in manufacturing process variability and product variation. To achieve this under growing price and time pressures, companies such as The Linde Group are now following the lead of the automotive industry by modularising their product landscape.
To succeed, however, this ‘building block’ approach has to be mirrored throughout the entire engineering and fabrication process.
Industrial gases may be invisible to the naked eye, but they are ubiquitous – carbon dioxide (CO2) included. Although this gas is better known for its contribution to climate change, it has in fact many more – less well-known – useful, everyday applications. It is used, for instance, to carbonate beverages, preserve food, desalinate water, extinguish fires and enhance greenhouse growth.
