New carbon capture projects are being confirmed all the time. Some have storage bolted on and others seek to utilize the CO2. What’s the state of play today in the US and globally? Christian Annesley reports
Across North America and the wider world, carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) projects, as well as, more commonly, CCS ones where the captured carbon dioxide (CO2) is sequestered, are being announced all the time. And with more companies in hard-to-abate sectors committed to decarbonization, as well as governments showing increasing policy support, the space will continue to develop fast this year.
The backdrop for these projects is the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which has emphasized how CCS and CCUS are needed as part in the package of measures to combat climate change as the world tries to forge a path to Net Zero by 2050.
