Thinking in terms of carbon dioxide and ‘green’ chemistry and usage is somewhat of an oxymoron, given CO2 is the most plentiful greenhouse gas around.
As a product of industrial activity, CO2 levels are now well over 400 ppm, which for those who advocate destruction, we are beyond the point of no return with respect to climate change and its catastrophic effects. The optimist would believe we will adapt, survive, and even steer the planet away from such a catastrophe. The answer lies within adapting to more sustainability in everyday life, and in particular, within industry itself.
Over time, more CO2 applications are being developed which are green in nature, and will help – at least a little – tame the rise in CO2 based greenhouse gases. Some green applications for CO2 are well established and somewhat age-old, such as CO2 usage in the form of carbonic acid, which replaces mineral acids. Others are more recent, including concrete dosing, and applications to enhance America’s newest (regional) legal crop, cannabis.
