Beverage carbon dioxide (CO2) supply is changing for Liberty Coca-Cola Beverages (Liberty), which is the largest family-owned authorized producer and distributor of Coca-Cola beverages in the northeast US.
With various shortages and strains related to CO2, the beverage specialist rethought its operations and has recently broken ground on a new plant that will recover emitted CO2 and purify it for a beverage-grade product.
Located in New York, the plant is the first of its kind in the country to generate its own electricity and heat that recovers CO2 for drinks. Generating energy using combined heat and power technology, the plant will deliver significant carbon savings versus grid-sourced electricity.
As well as future-proofing CO2 supply by producing and utilizing its own CO2, the plant has two more environmental benefits.
