A great way to find trends in the industrial gas industry is to look at the research and development initiatives being supported by its major players.
Air Liquide’s Research and Development network includes nine locations within France, Germany, China, Japan, South Korea, and North America. In June of 2007, Air Liquide opened its Delaware Research and Technology Center (DRTC), located south of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, near the heart of “gas alley,” the new Center brought together in a single location the researchers of the previous Chicago Research Center (opened in 1983), the experts of MEDAL (a subsidiary which produces membranes for gas separation and purification), the engineers of the Advanced Technologies Division in the USA (ALATUS), and the teams of the SEPPIC subsidiary (specialty chemicals). Today, the Delaware Research and Technology Center hosts state-of-the-art labs and pilot platforms with over 100 scientists and engineers, representing a wide range of competencies and nationalities.
For our January issue, we asked Air Liquide to bring us up to date on the work being done at DRTC today. As discussed in our article, “Trending Now” on page 20, Air Liquide’s report below confirms that the demand for greater energy efficiency along the industrial gas supply chain and the drive toward greater digital connectivity are key trends for 2016 and beyond.
