It is well understood that the production of most industrial gases needs a lot of energy, but this is particularly true when it comes to air gases. Powering air separation units (ASUs) accounts for most of the energy that’s directly used by the majors today, but the move over to using renewable energy is an ongoing challenge.

What has progress looked like in the past year? While there is no silver bullet when it comes to renewables, all the majors are committed to change, and progress is there to be seen.
